Our modern society is coined by the inexorable trends of “big data”, “cloud computing” or “internet of things” resulting in rapidly increasing data traffic. To keep up with the tremendous pace of market demands, completely new hardware and system concepts need to be provided by the industry. This puts high requirements on the measurement equipment. The broadband transmitter hardware funded by this project allows for the generation of symbol rates up to 100 GBd. It intends to strengthen the institute’s position as a global leader in the exploration of high-speed optical communication systems, photonic integrated circuits and signal processing.
