December 2022: A new publication written by Pascal Maier, PhD candidate at IPQ, was selected as an Editor's Pick in the current issue of Optics Express (Vol. 30, No. 26). According to the journal's Editorial Office, "Editor's Picks serve to highlight articles with excellent scientific quality and are representative of the work taking place in a specific field".

In his paper entitled "3D-printed facet-attached optical elements for connecting VCSEL and photodiodes to fiber arrays and multi-core fibers", he demonstrates that 3D-printed facet- attached microlenses (FaML) offer an attractive path for connecting multimode fiber arrays, as well as individual cores of multimode multicore fibers to standard arrays of vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSEL) or photodiodes (PD) without the need for expensive multi-step assembly procedures or technically complex fan-out structures.
