ECOC 2022 Post-Deadline Papers

Cryogenic Operation of a Silicon-Organic Hybrid (SOH) Modulator at 50 Gbps and 4 K Ambient Temperature
 ECOC 2022

September 2022: ECOC is the largest conference on optical communications in Europe. Only a small number of post-deadline submissions are accepted for presentation by a panel of experts, and those papers represent the latest groundbreaking technical achievements in the field of optical communications. The paper, "Cryogenic Operation of a Silicon-Organic Hybrid (SOH) Modulator at 50 Gbps and 4 K Ambient Temperature" (paper number: Th3B.3), submitted by PhD candidate at IPQ, Adrian Schwarzenberger was accepted as a post-deadline paper and the results were presented at ECOC 2022.

The paper details how researchers at KIT demonstrated the operation of a silicon-organic hybrid (SOH) Mach-Zehnder modulator (MZM) at cryogenic temperatures. The device is based on a dedicated material formulation of the organic chromophore and allows for 40 Gbps on-off-keying (OOK) using sub-volt drive voltages at 4K.
